Mick Williams Mick Williams is the creator of "Terrapin Blues" -- the signature painting for the Eleventh Annual Westedrn Maryland Blues Fest in Hagerstown. "A Suitcase Full of Blues" -- an exhibition of his blues-inspired paintings, was held at the Washington County Arts Council is conjunction with the Blues Fest in June, 2006.
He graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in 1980. He has over 20 years experience as a graphic artist, illustrator, cartoonist, art director, and painter. He is a member and 2nd Vice President of Frederick County Artists Association and a member of the Delaplaine Visual Arts Organization. His work has been shown in Cumberland, MD, Frederick, MD, and Washington, DC.
Mick is currently involved with the production of watercolor paintings. Mick lists his major influences as Picasso, Van Gogh, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Maxfield Parrish. Mick is also influenced by many current artists. The most important thing is to have many examples of fine art lying around. That keeps the creative juices flowing and the desire to paint high on the to-do list. The artwork is best described as compositions with imagery from different scenes or photo references combining to build a painting. The process of building though a series of sketches until a final composition is reached. The actual painting starts with a pencil sketch on heavy watercolor board or paper, followed by layers of water media. Details are the last step, applied with fine-tipped detailing brushes.
Mr. Williams does devote some time to creating graphic arts as well, with projects as diverse as designing web sites, producing logos, marketing materials and corporate collateral. He has also written and illustrated 3 comic short stories, and worked as a syndicated cartoonist from 1993-1998, producing two strips, Mick's Nuts and Morons with Money. Mr. Williams is currently Art Director for alacarte studios in Frederick, Maryland.
Mr. Williams is married to Leslie Williams, and has two children, Sammie and Hayden. They have two pets, both great danes named M and Chance. Mick's hobbies include golf, weekly ice hockey games, and managing and watching the children's sporting events which include soccer, baseball, and Pom Poms.Click to see full-size image |
