Artist's Statement:

My name is Carly Burke and I am the photographer. As a sophomore attending Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in Bethesda, Maryland, I have recently become very interested in photography. The Executive Director of the Maryland Theatre, Brian Sullivan, has been gracious enough in allowing me to feature a showing here in Hagerstown, Maryland.

This showing came about through a special assignment at school called the Middle Years Program (MYP) Personal Project. The Personal Project is a chance for all of the student body and myself to complete a project, a passion or an interest utilizing the skills we have developed over the years in various subjects through the approaches we learned and to apply these approaches to the chosen goal that focuses on dimensions of the areas of interaction. From start to finish we were to create something truly meaningful. In this assignment, we were told that we needed to pick a topic, any topic, and figure out a way to see it through to its? entirety. The project must be completed in an organized fashion and to also select a mentor that could help guide us through the process and keep us focused. Seeing that I was becoming so interested in photography, I decided to have an art show that would raise money for a local charity. I immediately thought of Toni Rinehart Sullivan and soon after she became my mentor for this project. Toni has assisted me with developing a plan, organizing my tasks and accomplishing my objectives. All in all keeping me FOCUSED!!

The charity I have selected is ?KIDS FOR KIDS? - A program that brings the arts to underprivileged children in and around the state of Maryland. This program will help children to learn about different cultures through various arts and entertainment. I will be displaying 5 x 7 and 8 x 10 photographs of my work that will be available to purchase for $10.00 or $20.00 respectively with all proceeds being donated to ?KIDS FOR KIDS.?

Once again, thank you for sharing in my vision and supporting ?KIDS FOR KIDS.? Should you have any questions or comments, please feel free to ask me, as I will be available during the showing.
