Theatre in Our Schools essay contest

An essay contest for students in grades K-12 is being sponsored by the American Alliance for Theatre & Education (AATE) in celebration of National Theatre in Our Schools Month, which takes place in March. AATE created Theatre in Our Schools Month to encourage Theatre Educators and students of all ages to appreciate the benefits of theatre experiences in our schools. Therefore, the theme of the contest will be "Why Theatre is Important in the Lives of Students."
A winning essay from each of three age group categories will be published in STAGE of the Art, one of AATE's national journals, and the schools of the three winners will be honored with a free one-year membership to AATE. Students should adhere to the following guidelines:
? Students in grades K-3: Write an essay of 75-300 words about why you like drama/theatre. You may include an 8.5x11 drawing to illustrate your essay.
? Students in grades 4-8: Write an essay of at least 350 words answering the question, "How has theatre played a role in your life and/or education?"
? Students in grades 9-12: Write an essay of at least 700 words answering the question, "How has theatre played a role in your life and/or education?"
Essays should be submitted to AATE 7475 Wisconsin Ave, Suite 300A, Bethesda, MD 20814, by fax to (301) 968-0144 or by email to info@aate.com. All submissions must be postmarked or received between March 1, 2007 and March 31, 2007. The American Alliance for Theatre & Education is a professional organization representing theatre artists and educators serving young people.
