Hagerstown Suns baseball seeks National Anthem singers for the season

The Hagerstown Suns will hold open tryouts for the singing of the National
Anthem for the 2007 season. Tryouts will be held at the Hagerstown Valley
Mall on Saturday, March 24th. Registration for all participants will begin
at 8am in the Valley Mall Food Court, and the auditions will begin at
10am.
The National Anthem auditions, which are being held for the sixth year in a
row and are sponsored by the Valley Mall and WAYZ 104.7 FM - "Today's
Hottest Country", are open to all participants five (5) years of age or
older. Approximately fifty winners will be selected from the competition to sing (or play) the National Anthem before a Suns game this season.
At the tryouts, participants must either sing the national anthem a cappella (without instrumental accompaniment) or play it with an instrument. The
national anthem at Municipal Stadium must be performed the same way -
without pre-recorded music and lyrics. Singers are permitted to try out
individually or in groups. If a singer is under eighteen (18) years of age,
he or she must have a parent or guardian present to sign the registration
form at the tryouts. All winners must be able to provide
their own transportation to the game.
"I am amazed at the amount of local talent that competes in the tryouts,"
said Suns Director of Special Events and Promotions, Joel Pagliaro.
"Everyone wants the chance to perform at a Suns game."
The Hagerstown Suns play at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown, MD and are a
Class "A" affiliate of the Washington Nationals. Ticket packages and
sponsorships are available by calling the Suns at 301-791-6266. The Suns are
owned by Los Angeles based Mandalay Baseball Properties.
The Washington County Arts Council is a proud sponsor of the Suns' reading-and-imagination program in which Suns players read classic stories for children on the outfield prior to Sunday home games. Likewise, the Suns are respected as a contributor to cultural and educational needs in the community, including: the Arts Council's Community Arts Development program; the enhancement of community services of the Walnut Street Health Clinic, and next up is the "Why Dinosaurs Don't Smoke" project of the Maryland Theatre.
NOTE: the 4th Annual Hagerstown Chili
Cookoff and Music Festival is happening September 22, 2007.
