Washington County Museum of Fine Arts wins award

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts 75th
anniversary exhibition catalog, "Our Fondest Dreams and Hopes," has won
a Silver Medal ADDY(r) Award in the 2007 Greater Frederick Advertising
Federation (GFAF) ADDY Award Competition. The catalogue, which kicked
off the museum's anniversary year beginning in September 2006, was
designed by Lori Jenkins of Hagerstown Bookbinding and Printing (HBP),
Inc.
"It was the first book we had created and published in decades," said
Museum Director Joe Ruzicka. "It included an overview of our 75 years,
our collecting activity in Old Master paintings, and a history of the
building. We also compiled, for the first time, a complete listing of
all exhibitions here, all employees, and all Trustees."
Jenkins was the Designer / Art Director for the project, which was
directed by Ruzicka and coordinated by the WCMFA's Meg Dameron. 1000
copies of the book were printed by HBP. They are available for purchase
at the WCMFA Museum Shop.
"This publication was made possible thanks to a special appropriation by
the Washington County Commissioners and a generous discount in printing
costs by HBP," Ruzicka said.
The Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau welcomed
the news of the award. "The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts has
truly stepped up its very positive marketing and public relations
efforts, which helps bring people to our community. To have the 75th
Anniversary Exhibition catalog win an ADDY award is terrific," said CVB
President Tom Riford. "There's been a lot of positive news about the
museum lately, including the large American Art Review article published
in its February 2007 edition." The American Art Review is the nation's
leading scholarly art publication, and featured an eight page article
about the Singer Collection and the museum's 75th anniversary.
The GFAF ADDY(r) competition is the first of a three-tiered national
competition. The local winners proceed to a regional competition, and
those winners proceed to the national finals. The Silver Medal Award
recognizes an outstanding industry leader in the community.
The ADDY(r) Awards are the world's largest advertising competition, with
over 60,000 entries annually. They recognize all forms of advertising
from media of all types, creative by all sizes, and entrants of all
levels from around the globe. The American Advertising Federation, a
not-for-profit industry association conducts the ADDY(r) Awards through
its 200 member advertising clubs and 15 districts. It is the only
creative awards program administered by the advertising industry for the
industry.
