Independent film company considers Maryland Theatre

HAGERSTOWN, MD--The Maryland Theatre, which will present the statewide premiere of "American Cannibal," may itself become the subject of a reality show.

"American Cannibal" debuted at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival. It follows two writers as they navigate the murky waters of reality television, from pitch to production, chronicling America's obsession with celebrity and the price people are willing to pay to obtain it. The film plays at the Maryland Theatre April 27, 28 and 29.

Brian Sullivan, Executive Director of the Maryland Theatre and Dave Roberts, Executive Director of Kandu Productions, currently are in discussions to create a reality series about the day-to-day challenges of running a nonprofit theater.

"The Maryland Theatre is more than a community mainstay. It's an iconic world-class facility that is being rediscovered by the performing arts world," said Roberts. "Now is the time to take a peek at everything a landmark theatre must go through to transform itself into a premier destination for the community and beyond."
