Annual Shepherd Faculty Jazz Recital scheduled at WCMFA

HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, in association with Shepherd University, Shepherdstown, West Virginia, will present the annual Shepherd Faculty Jazz Recital, sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Spence W. Perry of McConnellsburg, PA, on Sunday, August 19, 2007 at 2:30.m. A reception, hosted by the Museum?s volunteer organization, The Singer Society, will follow the performance.

The group, composed of Dr. Mark Andrew Cook on piano, David Marsh on bass and Ronnie Shaw on drums, will perform the compositions of Herbie Hancock, Cedar Walton, Duke Ellington and Cole Porter.

Cook is Director of Jazz Studies and Music Theory at Shepherd and formerly taught Jazz Studies and Theory at Catholic University. He performs throughout the region and leads his own group, Set Theory.

Marsh and Shaw teach at Shepherd on their respective instruments, with Marsh previously at The Levine School and George Washington University, and Shaw at the Landon School in Bethesda. Shaw also previously served 26 years in the United States Air Force Band in Washington, D.C. Both are in demand as top-flight players and together they form the backbone of the rhythm section for the internationally acclaimed group Cook, Dickson, and Young, formerly known as the Three Mo?Tenors.
