December 2016 at TAG

November 19, 2016

In December TAG/The Artists Gallery will feature two exhibitions.  Linda Slattery Sherman will have a solo show titled “Suburban Wildlife: An Abstraction of Life in the 'hood.”  In addition all the members of the cooperative will take part in “White and Beyond White:  A Seasonal Show and Sale.

Through paintings and monoprints, Linda Sherman explores the nature of the wildlife with which we share our neighborhoods, habitats and sometimes even homes.
“Wildlife is all around us,” she says.  “Even in one of the most populated areas in the country, animals, birds and insects are constantly adapting to the changing environment and finding ways to thrive.”
Sherman has lived in one community in Maryland since 1974. Early on she saw few animals around her, but as time passed, deer, osprey, hawks, great blue herons, beaver, snapping turtles, foxes, and even coyotes have lived in or passed through her neighborhood.
In her Suburban Wildlife series, Sherman examines flying fauna as well as the mammals and reptiles she enjoys observing in her yard and the parks and lakes in Montgomery Village. In one piece, inspired by the work of Aboriginal artists, Sherman creates a map of her neighborhood and Lake Whetstone, and keys each painting to the location where she observed the animal.
Sherman will give an artist’s talk on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 3pm.

In “White and Beyond White,” the 32 TAG artists have been challenged to create one-of-a-kind works of art for a month-long show and sale.  Using a variety of media, artists are stressing “white” or “beyond white” as the color theme.  More than a hundred pieces will be offered for sale.
TAG’s professional artists include sculptors, ceramists, photographers, painters, and printmakers. They will present works not found anywhere else because they have been made exclusively for TAG patrons and art lovers.
Work in ‘Beyond White’ can be taken home at the time of  purchase.  TAG will donate a portion of all sales to the Friends of the Child Advocacy Center and Signature Project of the Frederick Woman’s Civic Club.

Both exhibitions will run from December 2 through 31, with a special holiday reception from 5 to 9pm during First Saturday on December 3.  The gallery will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day.
