First Saturday, May 5, 5:00–9:00 pm
During May there will be two new solo exhibitions at TAG/The Artists Gallery.
Mark Rothkopf will show a series of photographs titled “Chester, Pennsylvania,” which document one of the region’s devastated cities.
"This exhibit is one of true photojournalism,” says Rothkopf. “I’ve been going into dangerous areas in order to show the devastation and poverty of one of the oldest and most crime-ridden cities in the U.S., which ironically is surrounded by mysterious huge and wealthy industry.”
Rothkopf says he embarked on this project “to show how art can make changes in our society.”
Don Coomes will show a series of new paintings titled “Another Sleepless Night.”
Don’s paintings are non-objective and are created by the use of an all-over painting process. This process involves a slow accumulation of color and brushwork applied by hand to the canvas.
“This continues until I determine that the painting has reached the point of completion,” he says.
TAG will also have a new show of work by the other members of the gallery. These shows all run from May 4 through 27, with an opening reception from 5 to 9pm during First Saturday on May 5.
These three shows will run from December 1 through 31, with an opening reception from 5 to 9pm on First Saturday on Dec. 2. Music that evening will be performed by Bruce Wilkin on the violin and Chas Fowler on the Scottish smallpipes. The solo artists are also holding a reception for friends and family on Saturday, Dec. 16 from 7 to 9pm.
