Open MSO Position

The Maryland Symphony Orchestra, a professional orchestra based in Hagerstown, MD, is seeking an Operations Assistant. This position is part-time, based on the rehearsal and performance schedule of the MSO. The individual will report to the Operations Manager and also work with the Executive Director and Music Director to insure that production issues are handled professionally and smoothly.

Under the direction of Music Director Elizabeth Schulze, the MSO presents five weekend MasterWorks concerts, two Pops concerts, two Christmas concerts, the free Salute to Independence concert on the July 4th weekend on the Antietam Battlefield and a wide range of educational programs. For 33 seasons, the orchestra has been the leading performing arts organization of western Maryland.

 Supervise load-out and load-in at all venues
 Accurate stage set-up for all orchestra rehearsals and concerts, as well as supervise set and stage changes as necessary
 Coordinate with Operations Manager and venue staff to assure that guest artist needs are met and tech riders are fulfilled.
 Act as stage manager at certain orchestra concerts
 Respond to musician’s needs and requests during rehearsals and performances.
 Evenings and weekend schedule
 Individual must be able to lift and push heavy items.
 Additional responsibilities as assigned by Operations Manager

The Operations Assistant will report to the Operations Manager.

The Operations Assistant will work closely with the Operations Manager at all orchestra services. The Operations Assistant and Operations Manager will meet at least once prior to every orchestra concert set in a formal Production Meeting that will also involve the tech staff of the Maryland Theatre or other venue.

Compensation is based on fees for specific responsibilities: load-ins, load-outs, Salute to Independence, rehearsals, etc., and is negotiated each year.
