Frederick, Md.— In December TAG/The Artists’ Gallery will feature a show by Christina Lund, who will exhibit a series of paintings titled “In and Out.”
Lund’s show features landscape paintings that have a feeling of exuberance thanks to her brush strokes and choice of colors.
Lund has lived in Frederick, Md., since 1977. She studied art in Minnesota, Lebanon, France, California, West Virginia, Baltimore, and in Washington, D.C. She retired after twenty years of teaching art in 2011, anticipating more time for making art. Since her retirement she began exploring plein air painting and found she enjoyed the act of making paintings of places in and around Frederick County.
“Plein air painting gives me the opportunity to paint in the moment,” Lund says, “and to appreciate the color and light, the wind, the shadows and moving clouds as I paint.
“I love to work with paint and color,” she says. “I like using the fluidity of the oil paint to express the underlying structure of the composition, lights and darks, lines and shapes. I think of plein air painting as honing my craft and living in the moment. I try to capture the color and movement I see. Sometimes I may hope I’m going to find some kind of sublime revelation about the meaning of life, but mostly I find making art is extremely satisfying— a personal journey that makes life more meaningful.”
Lund has been a member of The Frederick County Art Association since the 1980s, The Artists’ Gallery since 2007, and the Frederick Plein Air Artists since 2013.
During December, all members of TAG will have pieces in the annual “Small Works/BIG Hearts” show. Work in all media will be modestly priced with holiday gift-giving in mind and a percent of sales going to charity. Art purchased in this show may be taken home that day.
Both shows run Dec. 4 through 27, with an opening reception from 5 to 9pm during First Saturday on December 5. Tina Lund will give an artist’s talk on Sat., Dec. 12 during a holiday reception to run from 5 to 9pm.
TAG, at 216 North Market Street, Frederick, is open Fri.-Sat. noon to 9pm, and Sun. noon to 5pm, or by appointment. Learn more at theartistsgalleryfrederick.com or 301-696-8187.
