If it’s March it must be time for the box show at TAG/The Artists Gallery! The fifteenth annual show, titled “Boxology,” will sing the praises of the humble box— though many of the entries will be so transformed that the box itself may be hard to find.
For this popular show, gallery artists and guests are given standard 8-inch by 8-inch wooden cubes to paint, sculpt, deconstruct, reconstruct, photograph, or virtualize into works of art. The sky’s the limit— especially since some artists’ finished pieces are only “inspired” by the idea of the Box.
The exhibition will run from March 4 through 19, with an opening reception on First Saturday, March 5. The boxes are all for sale in a silent auction, with bids being accepted until 8pm on Sat., March 19, when a closing reception will be held from 5 to 9pm.
“The closing night of box shows typically generates a lot of interest, with bidders standing by to insure they keep the top bids on favorite artworks,” said show chair Sarah Higgins. “Please note that we are closing the box show a week early this year, due to the Easter holiday.”
