City of Takoma Park Public Art Project
Lincoln Avenue Mural Call for Entries
The City of Takoma Park is seeking submissions from artists for a mural covering sections of a concrete retaining wall stretching three blocks along Lincoln Avenue in Takoma Park, MD. The project is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to public art that can be enjoyed by everyone. For more info about our public art program and examples of previous projects, go to https://takomaparkmd.gov/initiatives/arts-and-humanities/public-art/.
All proposals must be submitted through an online submission form at muralform.takomaparkmd.gov. Takoma Park City staff and the Takoma Park Arts and Humanities Commission will review the submissions and select the artist(s) for the project. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
All proposals must be unique and original. Selection of a theme and/or subject matter for the design is left up to each artist. It is encouraged that the submitted design reflect the historical or cultural character of Takoma Park in some way.The entire wall sections do not need to be painted, but the design must be cohesive across the entire length of the mural. The selected artist or artist team must be available for meeting with neighbors along the wall that would be arranged by City staff. Artists also must be willing to consider design changes after seeking community input. The Arts and Humanities Commission and City staff will have final approval over any proposed design changes in consultation with the selected artist(s).
The call is open to any artists 18 years old or older, and artist teams are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to artist(s) with prior experience and a track record of successfully completed public art projects. City of Takoma Park employees are not eligible to apply.
