Creation is more than expression-it's an extension of the creator." - Gary Rudisill "Art has been a major part of my life since I was very young. My art has been my enjoyment, my passion and my escape.” Gary Rudisill was born in 1970 in Anchorage, Alaska and grew up in Gettysburg, PA. In 1988 he began studying for an A.A.S. in art at Antonelli Institute of Art & Photography in York Pennsylvania from 1988 until 1990. During the summer break, Rudisill learned screen printing by trade, which has enabled him to provide wearable art to the masses. While working as a screen printer and full-time artist by day, the nights were spent prowling for new inspiration with the help of seven or eight cups of high test. Gary's had the pleasure of tricking out ads for fast-food restaurants like Hardees as well as local radio stations and other businesses. Even rock icons like The Black Crowes have been “Rudisill’ed” with his apparel designs for promotional giveaways. Today, after finding the American dream with an amazing wife and three kids, he has complete creative control with his screen printing and embroidery business, featuring 9-11 anniversary graphics and designs on the backs of MMA fighters such as Thiego Alves and Donald Cerrone. Gary also freelances to other printers and larger apparel companies worldwide. In 2011, while atternding a Nora Roberts book signing with his wife, Nicole at Turn the Page Book Store, in Boonsboro, Maryland, he stumbled upon a local store that sold various forms of art by local arists, Gifts Inn Boonsboro. While admiring the works of art in the cozy store, Rudisill felt comfortable enough to strike up a conversation about a particular piece. His wife, Nicole arrived in the middle of the conversation and made mention of Rudisill's art. The lady gave him a card and asked for him to call her to set up an appointment to see it. Six months later in the summer of 2012, Rudisill called up Natoma Vargason at Gifts Inn Boonsboro to arrange a meeting. She asked for his website, and while on the phone viewed his work and asked how soon he could bring his art to the store. The first series, The Ireland Series, sold out completely at Gifts Inn Boonsboro, with it's headline piece and most personal to Rudisill being sold to Romance Author and resident of Boonsboro, Nora Roberts. Nora Roberts has since purchase several more of Rudisill's work. Rudisill was asked to be a featured artist at Gifts Inn Boonsboro on October 29, 2013, the release date of Nora's latest book, which was Book One of The Cousins O'Dwyer Trilogy, The Dark Witch. If you visit Gifts Inn Boonsboro you can still find Gary Rudisill's work for sale there. Rudisill's passions vary in subject from lush landscapes to touchable nudes, and soul-capturing portraits to symbolic art. "I strive to inject a little part of myself into every piece I create. Through my eyes, I will take you on a journey of the senses." Black and white are the colors of good and evil—the essence of the life force—so charcoal and graphite are his minions. By pushing the lead, Gary can create contrast and detail that will make you take a closer look.

Windsong by Gary Rudisill

Windsong The wind is the singer who sang the first song This is 16"x21" Charcoal illustration on Canson Mi-Teintes paper. This is the fifth drawing of the Ireland series. Even though none of the reference pics or model were from Ireland, the inspiration came to me while visiting Ireland. Standing outside one night while visiting Malahide Ireland, I noticed how quiet and peaceful the night times were in Ireland. I looked up into the sky to notice drifting clouds and a full October moon. The only sound that I heard was the gentle wisping of the wind. I memory of my childhood came over me of my parents listening to music one evening as the often did. The lyrics to John Denver's Windsong ran through my mind. A song I haven't heard for over 30 years and to still remember the lyrics so clearly, seemed like a sign.

The Abbey by Gary Rudisill

Hore Abbey (also Hoare Abbey, sometimes known as St.Mary's) is a ruined Cistercian monastery near the Rock of Cashel, County Tipperary,Republic of Ireland On our walk down from the Rock of Cashel, it was getting dusk and into view we saw the Abbey. WIth a slight foggy view and overcast day, the Abbey appeared very haunting...almost dreamlike. This is a 14"x10" charcoal drawing on watercolour paper.

Shameless Metaphor by Gary Rudisill

This is the view on the path from Rock of Cashel, down the hill toward the Abbey. It was just a lonely tree. But in Ireland, lonely trees could be a fairy tree and fairy trees are sacred. This is a 14"x10" Charcoal rendering of a landscape in Ireland on Canson Water Color Paper.

Aillidh (the Rock of Cashel) by Gary Rudisill

Winner of the North Light Books' Strokes of Genius 5: Composition.(tentative publication date is September 13, 2013) This is a 12x16 Charcoal Drawing of The Rock of Cashel in Ireland. When visiting this majestic structure, you can almost hear the walls talking to you. This place has an energy of its own. It is very majestic and mystical. My intent with this piece was to not only create a mood, but to somehow give the viewer the same mystic feeling when seeing it. Aillidh is Gaelic for beautiful.

Behind Blue Eyes by Gary Rudisill

This is a 21"x16" Charcoal drawing on Canson Mi-Teintes paper. This was created to donated to the Children's Miracle Network in Hershey PA for their silent auction at their annual "The Miracle Ball" on November 17,2012 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals® is an international non-profit organization that saves the lives of children by raising funds and awareness for more than 170 children’s hospitals. Children’s Miracle Network benefits Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital and serves the Harrisburg, Lancaster, Lebanon and York region. Children's Miracle Network has raised more than $44 million since it began in 1984. Funds raised stay local to help to purchase life saving equipment and support vital patient programs, services and pediatric research at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. When creating this piece, I did not want to portray sorrow or pain, but concern. I wanted to be eye catching, so the intent was to make it in my traditional style of black and white, but this time to add blue just to the eyes. I felt the eyes were a direct focal point anyways but wanted to really throw it over the top by adding the color to them only.

Eyes of a Child by Gary Rudisill

A friend of mine in Italy, is a photographer. This is a photo of her daughter, Alice. When I saw the photo I instantly knew I had to draw this. This is 12x13 graphite rendering on drawing paper. When I completed this, I donated it to the Adams County Child Advocacy Center for their annual, Snow Flake Gala Silent Auction.
