Cumberland Valley Artists Exhibition

In honor of the semiquincentennial, or 250th anniversary of the U.S., the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts is planning its 2026 Cumberland Valley exhibitions around national themes. This exhibition will require submissions to be in line with four specific themes of national significance, some of which have been established by the American Association for State and Local History. Art dealing with these themes through abstraction are welcome:

  1. Unfinished Revolutions
  2. The Power of Place
  3. We the People
  4. American Experiment

Who may enter:
Open to artists in MD, VA, WV, PA, DC.

  • No artwork previously shown at the museum will be accepted.
  • Submit digital images not to exceed 8 MB.
  • Upload 1 image for each 2D object or up to 3 photos for sculpture. Use “Additional Notes” to enter descriptive information about medium (Mixed media – paper, paint, found object, etc...).

Fees
Museum members:
$12.50 per entry – promo code to use in Smarter Entry is “member”
Non-members:
$15.00 per entry.

Guidelines for accepted works

  • All framed entries must be ready to hang with two d-ring hangers.
  • No picture wire, please. (wire that interferes with the museum’s hanging system will be removed).
  • Works of art must not exceed 72 inches in any direction, including frame.
  • Sculpture must not exceed 84 inches in any dimension.
  • Three-dimensional work must be stable or have mounting hardware and instructions.
  • Exhibition design and layout is at the discretion of museum staff.


Delivery and return
Artists should plan to deliver their works to the museum the week of September 30. At this time, you will be given a loan agreement to sign.

Deliver artwork to museum: Tuesday, September 30–Sunday October 5, 9 a.m. -3 p.m.

Any works not picked up within 90 (Ninety) days following March 1, 2026, will become the property of the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts and may be disposed of in a manner at its sole discretion.

Works can be picked up on the following days: Monday March 2—Wednesday March 4, 2026 9 a.m.–3 p.m.

Shipping:

Privacy:
Washington County Museum of Fine Arts will not sell, rent or exchange your contact information.

Liability:
Although all possible care will be taken with work submitted, the museum is not responsible for loss or damage. Artists should insure their own work.

Publicity:
Unless otherwise stated in writing, the exhibitor’s permission to use images for publicity purposes is presumed.
